Parents: Please see this important information from the Sheriff regarding the online "Momo Challenge"

Sullivan County Sheriff's Office -Sullivan County, NY

March 2 at 10:41 AM

The Sheriff's Office has recently received inquiries about the so called "Momo Challenge" where children are solicited over the internet to commit acts of violence or suicide. The Momo Challange has also been linked to the popular game of "Minecraft".

At this time, the "Momo Challenge" appears to be a hoax. It began as a rumor on the internet in August of 2018. Like the previous "Clown(s) with the red balloon(s)" hoax that caused parents to keep their children home from school a few years ago, there is no substance to the claims associated with Momo Challenge.

Nevertheless, parents should still talk to their children about suicide and committing violent acts and internet safety in general. Internet safety is included in the D.A.R.E. program curriculum that is taught by police officers to 5th [& 6th] graders in Sullivan County.

Several links are included below that explain the "Momo Challenge".
Please educate yourself and your children.
