Sullivan West Standout Nancy Ference, Social Worker
Our newest Sullivan West Standout is Nancy Ference, Social Worker at the High School. Congratulations and well done, Nancy!
For the past 25 years, Nancy Ference has been counseling, supporting, assisting and inspiring students in our District in her role as a Social Worker. Nancy's office is always active, with students regularly stopping in to talk, and with faculty members constantly checking in on how a certain student is faring. Nancy greets every visitor to her office with a smile and the energy that she has come to be known for. When asked about her favorite part of her job, Nancy shared, "Sullivan West has been my home away from home for such a long time. What I love best about this job is working with the students and collaborating with our wonderful staff to find creative ways to support our kids. I also love the incredible sense of community in our District."
Nancy began her career in education at Orange-Ulster BOCES, where she worked as a Crisis Intervention Specialist. It was also there that she first worked with her husband Tom, and they are currently working together again this year at the High School, with Tom serving as a Special Education teacher. As many in our School District community already know, Nancy is retiring at the end of this school year. "Tom and I started our career together, and now we're ending it together."
Nancy already has plans to remain very busy in her retirement, as she is working with her dog, a Golden Retriever named Keeper, to become a certified therapy dog in the upcoming months. So, look out for Nancy, and hopefully Keeper as well, to be regular visitors to the High School next year! Congratulations and thank you for all that you do for our School District community, Nancy!
